Disease Prevention
Vitamin D has been shown to prevent many illnesses:
- heart disease
- multiple sclerosis
- tuberculosis
- schizophrenia
- several forms of cancer
- other chronic health problems
It doesn’t take much. Even moderate exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light benefits people concerned about vitamin D deficiency and has proven to boost immunity to certain diseases.

“Vitamin D-related anti-cancer benefits of sun exposure outweigh the risks associated with over-exposure.”
— The Hamilton Spectator 2008
Of course, too much of any good thing can be bad. And that holds true for UV light. Overexposure to the sun can burn our skin. However, the healthy approach to tanning is not an all-or-none mentality. It’s important to remember that the risks associated with UV light come from “too much” or “too little,” but it benefits our health to regularly get a moderate amount.
In addition to the health benefits, tanning in moderation gives people a “boost”—you just feel better.
